Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect what Next Game needs to work: who you follow, your alert settings, and the tokens Apple needs to deliver alerts and Live Activities to your iPhone.
- Next Game contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites. We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.
- We don't collect your location. We do use your country — the one you pick in Settings, or your iPhone's region — to choose popular competitions, show local deals and see where the app is used.
- We record how the app is used, and keep diagnostic logs so we can fix problems. Both are deleted on a schedule (section 8).
- Delete your account, or your guest data, any time in Settings › Delete account.
1. Who we are
Next Game (the iPhone app and nextgame.live) is run by {{OPERATOR_NAME}}, based in New Zealand (“we”, “us”). We're responsible for the personal information described here and handle it under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. If you're in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California, the sections on your rights also cover the extra rights you have there.
Questions or requests go to our privacy contact at {{CONTACT_EMAIL}}.
2. What we collect
Your account
You can use Next Game as a guest or with an account.
- Guest: when you first open the app it creates an anonymous guest account with a random identifier, so your follows and alerts have somewhere to live. We don't ask for your name or email.
- Sign in with Apple: your Apple user identifier and the email address Apple gives us (a private relay address if you choose “Hide My Email”). Apple may offer to share your name; we don't store it.
- Google sign-in: your Google account identifier, email address, and the basic profile details Google includes with a sign-in (your name and a link to your profile picture).
- Email sign-in: your email address, your password if you set one (stored only as a secure hash), and the country you choose when you sign up. We send sign-in links and confirmation emails to that address.
What you set up in the app
- The competitions, teams and games you follow or star.
- Your alert and Live Activity choices: the defaults, anything you customise or mute per team, competition or game, whether alerts are paused, whether No Spoilers is on, and when you turned alerts and Live Activities on.
- The time zone you choose in Settings › Time zone, if you set one, so times show the same on each device you sign in on.
- If you play the daily quiz: your answers, scores and streak, and which edition you played (World or your country's).
Your country
The app uses a country — the one you choose in Settings › Country, or your iPhone's region if you haven't chosen one — to pick popular competitions, local deals and the quiz edition, and to decide whether the home or away team is listed first. That country is sent to us with link events and deal submissions (below), and is saved with your account when you sign up by email. Usage events carry your iPhone's region code. We never use GPS or your IP address to work out where you are.
Alerts and Live Activities
If you allow notifications or Live Activities, Apple gives the app tokens that let us send to your iPhone, including one that lets us start a Live Activity for you. We store those tokens together with a random device identifier the app creates, your iPhone's platform and iOS version, the app build, its time zone (so reminders show kickoff in your local time), whether notifications and Live Activities are allowed, whether Live Activities start automatically on that iPhone, and when the device last checked in. For each Live Activity we store which game it's for, whether the app or our server started it, when it started and ended, and how it ended (for example, the game finished or you dismissed it).
Things you send us
- Feedback: your rating and message, with the app version, linked to your account. Feedback doesn't include your email address, so if you'd like a reply, email us as well.
- Deal submissions (businesses advertising an offer in the Deals tab; needs an account): business name, the offer's title, description and link, an image if you choose one, an optional contact email, and your country (added automatically).
How the app is used
The app records events about how it's used, linked to your account (guest or signed in): signing in and out, opening the app, the screens you visit, opening a game's details (the sport and tab, not which game), how you group and lay out lists, searches (the number of characters and results, not what you typed), shares (where you shared from, not what or to whom), opening the app from a widget, notification, Live Activity or quiz share link, and Live Activity starts, prompts and dismissals. Each event carries the two-letter country code from your iPhone's region setting.
Separately, we count views and taps of the ticket, merchandise, deal and other links on games and in the Deals tab, and reports of broken links. Each is recorded against the game or competition and the link and, for most links, the team and country — without any account or device identifier.
Diagnostics
The app sends diagnostic logs: errors (with technical details such as where in the code they happened), the steps of signing in and out, and a short trail of recent actions in the app that helps us reproduce a problem. Each log carries the app version and platform, a random identifier for your installation of the app, one for the current launch and, when you're signed in, your account identifier (which can also appear in a log's details). A log can also include an email address when an error quotes one, for example the address you entered when signing in or signing up fails. We use these logs only to find and fix problems, and delete them after 7 days.
3. What stays on your iPhone
Some features work entirely on your device and nothing about them is sent to us:
- Calendar: if you add a game to your calendar, the app lists your calendars so you can pick one and writes the event straight to it. Your calendars and their events are never sent to us.
- Widgets and Live Activities: the app keeps a copy of your upcoming games, team logos and the state of running Live Activities in storage shared only with its own widgets on your iPhone. It's cleared when you sign out.
- Display and app settings such as appearance, zoom and tips, and cached schedules and scores.
4. What we don't collect
- Your precise location. The app doesn't ask for location access; the only location-like information is the country described in section 2. Weather forecasts are for the stadium, not for you.
- Your contacts, photos (other than images a business uploads with a deal), microphone or camera.
- Advertising identifiers. Next Game contains no advertising, analytics, attribution or tracking SDKs.
- Your IP address, except that our sign-in provider records the IP address and device type of each sign-in for security. (The companies that host our services and images also see IP addresses as part of delivering them — see section 6.)
5. How we use it
| Purpose | What we use | Basis (EU/UK) |
|---|---|---|
| Run your account and show your games | Account, follows, settings, country | Providing the service you asked for |
| Send alerts and Live Activities | Alert choices, device and Live Activity tokens, time zone | Your consent, given in iOS and the app; you can withdraw it any time |
| Daily quiz and streaks | Quiz answers and scores | Providing the service |
| Answer feedback and review deals | Feedback, deal submissions | Providing the service; our legitimate interest in running the Deals tab |
| Understand which features are used, and where | Usage events, anonymous link-tap counts, country code | Our legitimate interest in improving Next Game |
| Find and fix bugs, keep things secure | Diagnostic logs | Our legitimate interest in a working, secure app |
We don't use your information for advertising, sell it, or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
7. Where it's stored
Our database is hosted by Supabase in {{SUPABASE_REGION}}. Our other providers may process information in the United States and other countries. When information leaves New Zealand, the EU or the UK, we rely on providers that protect it to a comparable standard, including under contractual safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses where they apply.
8. How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account, settings, team and competition follows, quiz history, feedback | Until you delete your account or guest data |
| Follows of a single game, and alert choices made for that game | Removed 14 days after the game ends (a postponed game's follow stays until it's played) |
| Usage events | 90 days |
| Anonymous link-tap counts | 180 days |
| Diagnostic logs | 7 days |
| Device registrations (including the token for starting Live Activities) | Removed after 90 days without the device checking in |
| Notification tokens | Until you sign out or delete your account, or Apple tells us the token is no longer valid |
| Live Activity tokens | Removed a day after the Live Activity expires |
| Live Activity history (which game, how it started, when it started and ended, and how it ended) | Until you delete your account |
| Records of final-result alerts sent | About 14 days after the game |
| Deal submissions | Until we remove them, including after a deal is rejected or expires. If the submitting account is deleted, the deal stays but its contact email, its link to the account and any unpublished image are removed. |
Guest data is kept until you delete it. If you sign in to an existing account while using the app as a guest, we delete the guest's data. If you delete the app while you're a guest, the guest's data can't be reached from the app any more; we may delete guest data that hasn't been used for 12 months.
9. Deleting your account
In the app, go to Settings › Delete account (Delete guest data if you never created an account). Your account is closed straight away. Usually within minutes (occasionally longer, if a step has to be retried) we end any running Live Activities, revoke Sign in with Apple if you used it, and permanently delete your account and everything linked to it: follows, alert settings, device registrations, quiz history, feedback and uploaded files.
A few things outlast the account for a while, or in a form that no longer identifies you: diagnostic logs, which may still contain your former account identifier or an email address quoted in an error, until their 7-day expiry; an internal account identifier in our operational logs for up to 90 days; our sign-in provider's security logs of sign-ins (including email and IP address), which expire on that provider's schedule; anonymous link-tap counts; and the hosting provider's backups, which expire on their normal cycle. A deal a business submitted stays, without its contact email, account link or unpublished image.
If you can't use the app, email {{CONTACT_EMAIL}} from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you.
10. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Most of it you can see and change in the app, and you can delete it all in Settings. For anything else, email {{CONTACT_EMAIL}}. We'll respond within 20 working days and may need to confirm it's you first.
New Zealand
You have the right to access and correct your personal information under the Privacy Act 2020. If you're not happy with how we've handled a request or complaint, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
European Union and United Kingdom
You also have the right to data portability, to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, to restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time (for alerts, by switching them off in the app or iOS). You can complain to your local data protection authority.
California
You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and to ask us to delete or correct it. We don't sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.
Notifications
You control alerts and Live Activities in Settings › Alerts & Live Activities, and can withdraw permission in iOS Settings at any time.
11. Children
Next Game isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access controls limit what each account can read and change. Only a small number of administrators can see account-level information, and only to run and support the service. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
13. This website
nextgame.live uses no cookies and no analytics. To show live games on the homepage and shared game pages, your browser reads public sports data directly from our database (hosted by Supabase) and loads team logos from the servers that host them; like any website, those see your IP address, but nothing else about you is sent. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details. Cloudflare hosts the site and processes standard request information.
nextgame.live also hosts pages for our separate Next Book app (links starting /b/ or /u/); those aren't covered by this policy.
14. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when Next Game changes what it collects or how it uses it, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know before it takes effect.
